Lucy Woodward is taking her latest album, “’Til They Bang on the Door,” on the road for her Feb. tour, which kicked off this week in Florida. Lucy recently wrapped up a stint at Snarky Puppy’s GroundUp Music Festival in Miami and is set to hit the stage at Jack Rabbits on Friday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m.
“Tours are always a blast, I love new cities,” she told The BUZZ Magazine. “I’ve never been to Jacksonville, so I’m very excited to make some new friends there.”
During the six-year hiatus between 2010’s “Hooked” and last year’s “’Til They Bang on the Door,” Lucy took a break from the studio while she provided background vocals for Rod Stewart.
“I learned so much in that time from touring with him for four years,” she said. “It was a good place to step back. And then I can say, ‘Okay, I think I have some ideas for the next record’.”
Rejuvenated and ready to return to the studio, Lucy collaborated with good friend and label mate, Snarky Puppy’s Michael League, and other producers to create her fourth record, which has been described as “slinky, brassy and decidedly sexy.”
Stand-out tracks include a re-working of Snarky Puppy’s “Too Hot to Last” as well as “Live Live Live,” which almost didn’t make the final cut.
“It’s so much about embracing life,” Lucy said, “and I’m so glad that I was encouraged by the right people to have faith in it. It just didn’t sound like the rest of the record.”
